Out of State Title Inspections
The Saline County Sheriff’s Office conducts out of state title inspections on behalf of the Nebraska State Patrol. An inspection is required on used vehicles titled in another state when either the vehicle is purchased by a Nebraska resident or the vehicle’s owner is an out-of-state resident relocating to Nebraska. A title inspection is not required on vehicles purchased new and transfer is made on a manufacturer’s certificate of origin.
The owner of a vehicle with an out of state title will bring the vehicle; their current driver’s license; the vehicle title, or certified copy in the event of a lien; and the $10.00 cash processing fee to the sheriff’s office between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. Monday-Friday. The VIN and odometer will be checked on-site and a completed inspection certificate provided to applicant. The applicant can then proceed to the Saline County Treasurer’s Office at the courthouse to submit the certificate and receive the new title for their vehicle.
In the event of a salvage title, sheriff’s office personnel will be required to verify the vehicle’s headlights, brake lights, turn signals and horn are in working condition at the time of the inspection.
Firearm Purchase Certificates
A firearm purchase certificate is required to purchase, lease, rent or receive a handgun in the state of Nebraska. State law prohibits selling, leasing, renting or transferring a handgun to a person who does not possess a handgun certificate. To obtain a certificate from our office, you must be at least 21 years of age and a current Saline County resident. Applicants born outside the U.S. must also provide a copy of their citizenship papers, U.S. passport or alien resident card. The cost of permit is $5.00 cash and applicant must also provide current driver’s license with current address.
We accept handgun purchase certificate applications IN PERSON ONLY at our office during regular business hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M., excluding holidays.
Certificates are valid for three years at which time applicants must re-apply for a permit. All documentation listed above is required at the time of application regardless of whether a certificate has been issued to the applicant in the past.
It takes three business days to conduct the background check and approve the application at which time you are required to pick your permit IN PERSON ONLY at our office.
